OC Baby Photography: Derek turns 1

I feel so lucky to have been able to photograph baby Derek during his Fabulous First Year. The OC baby was such a joy to capture every 3 months for the past year! I am so pleased with how each session brought out a new side of his personality. Mom, dad, and I loved watching him grow and change during each photography session. It seems so long ago that he was just a newborn being cradled in their loving arms, now he is up and on the move, walking and saying some words. derek1yr_01 derek1yr_02 derek1yr_04 derek1yr_05 derek1yr_06 derek1yr_03

So loving this little man! He was such a great model during each and every photography session. We had a lot of fun dressing him up each time we met. Ladies, watch out for this cutie pie! He is on the loose… Until we meet again baby Derek!

LA Child Photography at the Gentle Barn

It is always fun to head out to L.A. for a child photography session. For Zachary’s 4-year-old pictures a few weeks ago we headed up to the Gentle Barn in Santa Clarita and spent the day at the cities most humane and loving petting zoo. This place is amazing and stands for the ethical treatment of all animals. The owner has rescued and cared for these many animals for 17 years now and finds it hard to turn animals down. More info here about {The Gentle Barn}.

Zach is absolutely in LOVE with animals of all kinds. This kiddo owns about 100+ hard toy animals that he plays with each and every day at home. He knows their proper names, habitats, (his word not mine) eating habits, life span, etc. This smart 4-year-old can even tell you that an Orca is the largest dolphin in the sea. I mean seriously, this kid knows his animals.

It was so special for me to spend the day with Zachary and photograph him in his element for his 4th birthday. I know mom will cherish these photos forever because they will remind her what her four year old son was like. She will be able to look back at this time in his life and recall specific memories of his love and understanding of animals. This is another example of an ALL ABOUT ME photography session. OC Children Photography: Ryder turns 2!

It is slowly starting to feel like Fall here in sunny, Southern California. What better way to kick off the Fall season than with a stylish 2-year-old named Ryder. We met at Huntington Beach Central Park at the beginning of October for a stroll through the park to capture his second birthday. We had fun running after ducks, hanging from bars, and playing with cars and trains along the way.  The handsome boy turns the big 2 today, October 31st! Happy Halloween birthday to Ryder!!!

I just love the set below of Ryder playing with his trains…

It’s such a fantastic time of year to get out there with your warm clothes on and run through the leaves. What a fun time we had that day at Huntington Beach Central Park in October. Once again, Happy Happy Birthday to the handsome boy! Yay for you, the big 2!

Superhero Photography Session: Irvine

One of my favorite things about being a photographer is creating a story with images to celebrate the things that children LOVE. This super fun, superhero photography session was shot in Irvine for Weston’s super 2nd birthday. Mom told me that Weston is really into all of the superheros right now and loves watching them on t.v. Mom and I had fun collaborating on the story that we wanted to tell for Weston’s superhero photography session. She went out and bought a cape and mask for us to use as props and made his #2 shirt with iron on transfers. The only obstacle for the shoot was finding a location that had tall buildings. Being in Orange County, California there are not many options but we made it work!

Up to the roof top we go….Weston showed us the way…

Happy Super 2nd birthday to Weston!!! It was a blast running around after you and making your birthday wishes come true as you were able to be the superhero for the day. It was quite an adventure to shoot your superhero photography session.

Los Angeles Boudoir Photography: Miss Lauren

I am so in love with this session from  a few months back which features Miss Lauren and all of her sexiness. We met at the Viceroy Hotel in Los Angeles, California for an afternoon of all things boudoir and sexy. We toasted the shoot with some champagne and strawberries as Lauren relaxed in the makeup chair. While getting all dolled up, we sorted out her wardrobe and jewelry choices for the shoot. Lauren was a bit nervous at the start of the shoot but quickly relaxed and became the fun and flirty bombshell that she is.

I mean seriously, LOOK at these legs…

I love the image below, the lighting and mood created with the black and white treatment of the photo. So simple, yet powerful.

Thanks to Lauren for making this a super fun and easy shoot. She was so willing to play around with different poses and sets in the room and was comfortable interacting with any surface available from the countertop to the glass coffee table. Super hot and sexy shoot!!!

OC Child Photography: Ashlyn turns 2!

Ashlyn, the little pink lady turned the big 2 recently. We met up at Castaways Park in Newport Beach, California to document her big day!!! We walked along the park path and played in the “snow” aka wood chips. I think Ashlyn is dreaming of going back to Rhode Island for the winter where she, mom, and dad spend their time in the off-season.

We headed down to Little Corona Beach in Corona del Mar for the second part of the photo session. It was a hot and humid afternoon but nothing was hotter or cuter than Ashlyn in her black and pink lace romper.

To celebrate the birthday, mom headed over to the Corona del Mar plaza for a Sprinkles cupcake! Who doesn’t love a cupcake? Especially a one from the famous Sprinkles. Ashlyn dug into the cupcake without thought or hesitation. A satisfied reaction for any person I do believe was clear across her face. What a wonderful afternoon we had romping around the park, the beach, and eating yummy cupcakes!

OC Baby Photography: Baby Derek is 9 months!

Baby Derek had his 9 month photo shoot recently at his home in sunny Orange County, California. This handsome, blue-eyed baby boy is growing up so quickly I can’t even believe it. That is why I just love the Fabulous First Year package,  it allows me to document each baby’s change and growth over the course of one year from Newborn to One Year. I know mom and dad have enjoyed each photo session too as it captures these divine moments in baby Derek’s first year. It seems like just yesterday we were taking his newborn pictures, his 3 month pictures, and his 6 month pictures.

Pretty soon we will be ready to take his One Year photos, who knows what he will be running to then. I’m pretty sure he will have both feet planted on the ground, hopefully I will be able to catch him. I can’t wait to share those with you all soon.

GO PINK! In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!!! Or what I like to call, GO PINK! month. In honor of breast cancer awareness month, it is my honor and privilege to present an amazing story of love, bravery, hope, and achievement with you. I met Lisa earlier this year while shooting her family photos which you can see {here} in Long Beach. During the shoot, Lisa informed me that she had recently found out about her diagnosis with breast cancer and that she would be starting treatment in the coming weeks. At first, I was so shocked to hear that someone so young would be going through this process. As the day went on we chatted about life, her beautiful family, and her upcoming treatment. Lisa showed such bravery and courage throughout our talking about cancer and the affect it was having upon her life. I just knew that she was a fighter and that she would make it through…

A few months later, Lisa contacted me to let me know that she was doing well with her treatments. She also informed me that her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks after she was and that her mom was also currently going through treatment. At that moment, I almost dropped the phone! I just couldn’t believe the odds, how was it that they both had to suffer through this disease and at the same time. In times of struggle it is natural for us to lean on our loved ones for support. Now Lisa and her mother would be forced to be strong for each other as they both battled breast cancer.

Lisa informed me that her mom would be visiting in a few months once she was finished with treatment and that they would like to have their journey documented through photos. I quickly agreed to shoot their photo session without any hesitation what so ever. It was lovely to meet Lisa’s mom from Ohio. She came out by herself  when her treatments concluded and stayed with the family as Lisa was finishing up hers.

As the photo session began it was obvious to me how nervous both Lisa and her mother were. They were somewhat apprehensive about their lack of hair, which I quickly reassured them that hair was just hair and nothing to worry about. I reminded them that they are both beautiful and strong women going through the most difficult battle of their lives. In that realization, the session became more than photos about women loosing their hair. The session became a story that developed over the time we were together, documenting their struggle as mother and daughter. The photos now are a reminder to all of us that life is precious, and beautiful and that this moment in time stands as a triumph of their bravery and courage. They have both conquered their battle with breast cancer and are on the road to recovery. I wish both Lisa and her mom well during this challenging time of putting their lives back together after their battle. May you both be an inspiration to all of us.
