Garden Maternity Photography in Mission Viejo

It was a gorgeous and love filled afternoon for this garden maternity photography session at the family’s Mission Viejo home. They have a stunning backyard filled with lemon trees and yellow flowers. The birds were chirping, flowers were blooming bright and yellow, and mama was just glowing in turquoise. It is so wonderful when people I know and adore get pregnant for the second time! It means I get to photograph them again with their beautiful bellies and their adorable families.  Of course Karisa is just beautiful and glowingly stunning as a mom to be for the second time around. Dad and baby Derek look great too, helping mom show of her belly.

I remember when Derek was just growing inside mama’s belly. Now he is proudly showing off his soon to be little brother. I know that he will do a great job as a big brother and help mom and dad out. He may be young, but I can tell he is excited to welcome his new brother very soon.

Baby Conor is due to arrive soon and I can’t wait to meet him. Congratulations to this wonderful, loving family and their precious new baby boy.

OC Children Photography: Ryder turns 2!

It is slowly starting to feel like Fall here in sunny, Southern California. What better way to kick off the Fall season than with a stylish 2-year-old named Ryder. We met at Huntington Beach Central Park at the beginning of October for a stroll through the park to capture his second birthday. We had fun running after ducks, hanging from bars, and playing with cars and trains along the way.  The handsome boy turns the big 2 today, October 31st! Happy Halloween birthday to Ryder!!!

I just love the set below of Ryder playing with his trains…

It’s such a fantastic time of year to get out there with your warm clothes on and run through the leaves. What a fun time we had that day at Huntington Beach Central Park in October. Once again, Happy Happy Birthday to the handsome boy! Yay for you, the big 2!

GO PINK! In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!!! Or what I like to call, GO PINK! month. In honor of breast cancer awareness month, it is my honor and privilege to present an amazing story of love, bravery, hope, and achievement with you. I met Lisa earlier this year while shooting her family photos which you can see {here} in Long Beach. During the shoot, Lisa informed me that she had recently found out about her diagnosis with breast cancer and that she would be starting treatment in the coming weeks. At first, I was so shocked to hear that someone so young would be going through this process. As the day went on we chatted about life, her beautiful family, and her upcoming treatment. Lisa showed such bravery and courage throughout our talking about cancer and the affect it was having upon her life. I just knew that she was a fighter and that she would make it through…

A few months later, Lisa contacted me to let me know that she was doing well with her treatments. She also informed me that her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks after she was and that her mom was also currently going through treatment. At that moment, I almost dropped the phone! I just couldn’t believe the odds, how was it that they both had to suffer through this disease and at the same time. In times of struggle it is natural for us to lean on our loved ones for support. Now Lisa and her mother would be forced to be strong for each other as they both battled breast cancer.

Lisa informed me that her mom would be visiting in a few months once she was finished with treatment and that they would like to have their journey documented through photos. I quickly agreed to shoot their photo session without any hesitation what so ever. It was lovely to meet Lisa’s mom from Ohio. She came out by herself  when her treatments concluded and stayed with the family as Lisa was finishing up hers.

As the photo session began it was obvious to me how nervous both Lisa and her mother were. They were somewhat apprehensive about their lack of hair, which I quickly reassured them that hair was just hair and nothing to worry about. I reminded them that they are both beautiful and strong women going through the most difficult battle of their lives. In that realization, the session became more than photos about women loosing their hair. The session became a story that developed over the time we were together, documenting their struggle as mother and daughter. The photos now are a reminder to all of us that life is precious, and beautiful and that this moment in time stands as a triumph of their bravery and courage. They have both conquered their battle with breast cancer and are on the road to recovery. I wish both Lisa and her mom well during this challenging time of putting their lives back together after their battle. May you both be an inspiration to all of us.

OC Baby Photography: Fabulous First Year: Ayva’s 9 month shoot

The Fabulous First year of this sweet girl continues. As we know, this darling baby girl is one of my Fabulous First year babies. We have seen grow and change from a newborn {here}, into a smiley three month old {here}, a girly six month old {here}  and now a mover and a shaker in this 9 month photo session. Ayva turned 9 months in the heat of the summer and boy is she lookin cute in those shades and playing out side. Since it still feels like summer here in the OC, I thought I would treat you to these pictures of one of my favorite all time gals.

Big brother Zach couldn’t resist getting in the tub and playing too. We had so much fun taking these shots during one of the hottest days in the summer. Both of the kiddos loved making bubbles in the bucket and splashing around to cool off in the hot sun.

Can’t wait for the 1 year shoot Miss Ayva!!!
