Whimsical Sister Beach Photography Session: Corona Del Mar

As summer technically comes to a close here in Orange County, the warm rays and hot temperatures remind us of how summer wants to stick around some more. On this hot September day, I had the wonderful pleasure of chasing around two cute girls for a whimsical beach photography session to end the summer season. These sisters were so playful and loving as they shared some snuggles down at the beach. A little ruffle tee pee, flower crowns, and lace create a whimsical setting for the girls to play. Little miss Ellsi was so adorable in her pink flower crown and lace blush-pink dress, doing the hula and taking care of baby sister Mila. Miss Mila was ever so sweet in her vintage creme dress. Both girls were in awe of the waves and wanted to play on the sand and splash in the ocean during their beach photography session.

Ellsi was such a ham doing the hula for me on the rocks of Little Corona Beach in Corna Del Mar. She reminded me more than once that she had just taken a Hawaiian vacation and learned how to do the hula properly. Her favorite movie at the moment is Lilo and Stitch, obviously!

Sister LOVE BEACH PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION!!!

The ruffle tee pee created a nice hideaway from the bright sun during the session. Both girls loved playing inside and taking a break in the shade.

I am glad we were able to spend some time together down at the beach, digging in the sand and smelling the salty air. Beach sessions are always exciting and fresh and you never know what is going to happen. I am so happy to have captured these sisters together, enjoying the warm, sunny day.

OC Child Photography: Ashlyn turns 2!

Ashlyn, the little pink lady turned the big 2 recently. We met up at Castaways Park in Newport Beach, California to document her big day!!! We walked along the park path and played in the “snow” aka wood chips. I think Ashlyn is dreaming of going back to Rhode Island for the winter where she, mom, and dad spend their time in the off-season.

We headed down to Little Corona Beach in Corona del Mar for the second part of the photo session. It was a hot and humid afternoon but nothing was hotter or cuter than Ashlyn in her black and pink lace romper.

To celebrate the birthday, mom headed over to the Corona del Mar plaza for a Sprinkles cupcake! Who doesn’t love a cupcake? Especially a one from the famous Sprinkles. Ashlyn dug into the cupcake without thought or hesitation. A satisfied reaction for any person I do believe was clear across her face. What a wonderful afternoon we had romping around the park, the beach, and eating yummy cupcakes!

GO PINK! In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!!! Or what I like to call, GO PINK! month. In honor of breast cancer awareness month, it is my honor and privilege to present an amazing story of love, bravery, hope, and achievement with you. I met Lisa earlier this year while shooting her family photos which you can see {here} in Long Beach. During the shoot, Lisa informed me that she had recently found out about her diagnosis with breast cancer and that she would be starting treatment in the coming weeks. At first, I was so shocked to hear that someone so young would be going through this process. As the day went on we chatted about life, her beautiful family, and her upcoming treatment. Lisa showed such bravery and courage throughout our talking about cancer and the affect it was having upon her life. I just knew that she was a fighter and that she would make it through…

A few months later, Lisa contacted me to let me know that she was doing well with her treatments. She also informed me that her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks after she was and that her mom was also currently going through treatment. At that moment, I almost dropped the phone! I just couldn’t believe the odds, how was it that they both had to suffer through this disease and at the same time. In times of struggle it is natural for us to lean on our loved ones for support. Now Lisa and her mother would be forced to be strong for each other as they both battled breast cancer.

Lisa informed me that her mom would be visiting in a few months once she was finished with treatment and that they would like to have their journey documented through photos. I quickly agreed to shoot their photo session without any hesitation what so ever. It was lovely to meet Lisa’s mom from Ohio. She came out by herself  when her treatments concluded and stayed with the family as Lisa was finishing up hers.

As the photo session began it was obvious to me how nervous both Lisa and her mother were. They were somewhat apprehensive about their lack of hair, which I quickly reassured them that hair was just hair and nothing to worry about. I reminded them that they are both beautiful and strong women going through the most difficult battle of their lives. In that realization, the session became more than photos about women loosing their hair. The session became a story that developed over the time we were together, documenting their struggle as mother and daughter. The photos now are a reminder to all of us that life is precious, and beautiful and that this moment in time stands as a triumph of their bravery and courage. They have both conquered their battle with breast cancer and are on the road to recovery. I wish both Lisa and her mom well during this challenging time of putting their lives back together after their battle. May you both be an inspiration to all of us.
